Family Access to Medical Insurance Security
Every year, thousands of children in Virginia go without much-needed healthcare due to prohibitive cost and either a complete lack of health insurance or a lack of adequate insurance coverage.
FAMIS is Virginia’s health insurance program that offers coverage for low to moderate income children in the Commonwealth. Financial eligibility for both programs is based on a comparison of family income to the Federal Poverty Level guidelines. There are no enrollment costs or monthly premiums for either program.
Application is quick and easy and can be done online at www.famis.org; through your local Department of Social Services; or by calling Richmond toll-free 1-866-873-2647. Interpreters are available. The website and e-application are available in both English and Spanish.
