2020 Day of Caring Volunteer Information

Welcome to the Day of Caring
Volunteer Information Page

This year, due to COVID-19, Day of Caring will look a little different.  Our #1 priority is the safety of our volunteers, agency staff and their clients.  As Virginia moves into Phase 3, we are keeping an optimistic outlook while planning this event but have erred on the side of caution with the conditions this fall remaining unknown.  We will communicate with you any changes that arise. After months of quarantine and isolation, we are looking forward to coming together and doing good in our communities.

As we work to recreate this community impact event, we will share with you all the latest updates.  These are still evolving plans that are subject to change as we move through this planning process.

Main Changes for Day of Caring 2020:

  • SAFETY:  Safety is our #1 priority.  All Agencies and Volunteers will be required to comply with CDC Guidelines.

    • All agencies have to sign a Safety Compliance Form

    • All Volunteers will have to sign a Waiver for Healthy, Safety, and Photo Release

  • PROJECTS:  Volunteers can start signing up for projects July 31st on Volunteer Peninsula!!

    • We have communicated with Day of Caring agencies that outside projects and small groups are preferred.

    • United Way is asking that all projects be limited to the number of volunteers that the agency can safely congregate with CDC Guidelines in mind.

    • Friday, September 18th is the preferred project date but agencies are permitted to post multiple projects on multiple days to make it easier and safe.

  • THE KICK OFF:  This year we are excited to host our first ever, service area wide, Drive-Thru Parade Kick Off.  We are still finalizing the details but this will be centrally located for our service area.  All volunteers are invited to drive-thru and the first 500 participants will receive a participation packet with some nonprofit information, coupons, and giveaways.  More details will come as we solidify our plans.

  • We hope that volunteers that may not feel comfortable participating in a group project this year will consider a virtual project and still join us for the kickoff parade.  You DO NOT have to volunteer to join in on this fun.  We'd love to see you!

  • SHIRTS: Due to the drastic effects COVID-19 has had on our local businesses, United Way and the Day of Caring Committee made the decision to recognize our 2019  Sponsors and Food Donors as 2020 Supporters.  These businesses have supported this event for many years and we want to continue to thank them.  When you are conducting business in our community, please think of these local supporters.

    • Shirts are available for purchase for $10.  ORDER YOUR EVENT SHIRT TODAY

    • We are excited to share that we've worked with a local artist, Jenny Pritchard of Williamsburg, and have an incredible design.

If you have any questions, feedback, or concerns please reach out to Katie Schubert- KSchubert@uwvp.org
