Make an Honor or Memorial Gift

Making Stock Gifts to United Way of the Virginia Peninsula

You may give securities to United Way of the Virginia Peninsula by transferring the shares into one of United Way’s brokerage accounts. United Way then liquidates the shares and uses the proceeds to benefit the community as you direct. You may take a tax deduction equal to the fair market value of the security on the date of transfer and avoid any capital gain tax you may have incurred if you sold the security instead.

Be sure you or your broker provide your name and address to the United Way of the Virginia Peninsula, the name and number of securities transferred, and the stock valuation on the date of transfer. Here’s UWVP’s account information you and your broker need to know.

Conway Sheild, III is a veteran and an attorney widely known on the Virginia Peninsula and the Commonwealth of Virginia as a servant leader.  Conway has demonstrated kindness through his immense service on volunteer boards and commissions and his extreme generosity to those in need.  Conway is a graduate of Washington & Lee School of Law and has practiced law on the Peninsula for five decades. 

Conway believes in advancing kindness and generosity to promote the education, financial stability and health of all citizens and has chosen to lead United Way of the Virginia Peninsula as a donor, board chair and campaign chair.  Support us in honoring Conway Sheild’s legacy of helping others by joining the Conway H. United Way of the Virginia Peninsula accepts cy pres awards and is grateful for the support that these awards contribute to our communities.
