School Campaigns
Young people help the community through "United Way@School"
The United Way campaigns conducted by public school students are an important element to our fundraising effort. School campaigns annually raise more than $20,000 for local agency programs--all due to the efforts of elementary, middle and high school students in Peninsula public schools.
Students in the City of Newport News Public Schools take part in deciding how the funds they raise will be spent--participating in their own fund distribution discussion and decision-making process each year.
"United Way@School" not only offers the opportunity for young people to give back to the community, it educates students about community needs and how our local agencies work hard every day to address them.
Coordinators of "United Way@School" campaigns are provided with tools to guide them through the process and enhance their campaigns. A How To guide provides step-by-step instructions for running a successful campaign, while posters and puzzle sheets help build enthusiasm for younger students.
